Questions, answered
Clark County deck FAQ
Do I need a permit to build a deck in Clark County, WA?
In most cases, yes. Clark County exempts only decks that meet all of these: 200 sq ft or less, no more than 30 inches above grade at any point, not attached to the house, and not serving a required exit door. Exceed any one of those and a permit is required. We handle the permitting for you.
How much does a new deck cost in Clark County?
Most decks here run $18–$35 per sq ft for pressure-treated wood, $25–$45 for cedar, and $28–$65 per sq ft installed for composite/Trex, depending on height, railing, stairs and tear-out. We give you a real range up front.
How long does it take to build a deck?
Most decks take one to three weeks of on-site build time once materials arrive and the permit is issued. We confirm materials before we start and give you a fixed start date so you're not left guessing.
Composite/Trex or wood — which is better in the Pacific Northwest?
In our wet climate, composite and Trex resist rot, mold and warping with almost no maintenance and a 25-year+ warranty. Wood costs less up front but needs regular sealing and eventually replacement. We'll walk you through the trade-offs honestly.
Are you licensed, bonded and insured?
Yes. We're licensed, bonded and insured in Washington and in Oregon (Oregon CCB), and we build to local code. Always confirm a contractor's active registration before you hire — we're happy to provide ours.
What areas do you serve?
All of Clark County, WA — Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Ridgefield, Battle Ground, La Center, Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Brush Prairie, Felida and the surrounding communities.
How do I get a quote if you don't list a phone number?
Fill out our quick quote form with your town and project type. We respond to every request the same day, 7 days a week — you'll hear from our owner directly.
What's your warranty?
We put our workmanship warranty in writing, and if something's our fault after install, we come back and fix it — for as long as you own your home. That's the No-Ghost Guarantee. Material warranties (like Trex's 25-year) come from the manufacturer.
Do you build covered decks and patio covers?
Yes — covered decks, attached and free-standing patio covers, and full outdoor living structures. In the rainy PNW, a cover is what turns a three-month deck into a year-round space.
Do you do deck repairs, or only new builds?
Both. We repair rot, loose boards, wobbly railings and structural issues, and we build new decks and full replacements. A lot of builders ignore repair calls — we don't.
Can you replace my old deck and reuse the footings?
Sometimes. If the existing footings and framing are sound and to code, we can build on them; if not, we'll show you why they need replacing. We never build a new surface over failing structure.
What deck materials do you work with?
Pressure-treated wood, cedar, and composite/Trex (including Trex Enhance and Transcend lines), plus composite, aluminum, cable and glass railing systems. We match the material to your budget and your home.
How much maintenance does a composite deck need?
Very little — an occasional wash with soap and water. There's no sanding, staining or sealing like a wood deck needs, which is why most Clark County homeowners upgrade to composite when they rebuild.
Do you handle the permit and inspections?
Yes. We pull the required permit and schedule the inspections with the correct authority — your city building department or Clark County if you're in an unincorporated area.
When is the best time of year to build a deck in Clark County?
We build year-round, but spring through early fall is busiest. Booking in winter or early spring often means a faster start date and getting your deck ready before summer.
How do I know if my deck needs repair or full replacement?
If the damage is limited to boards, railings or a few joists, a repair is usually the smart spend. If the footings, ledger or main framing are rotted or undersized, replacement is safer and often cheaper long-term. We'll give you an honest assessment.
Do you offer 3D designs or drawings?
Yes — we provide a design/layout so you can see the deck before we build, choose materials and railing, and lock in the scope before any work begins.
Why is the ledger board and flashing so important?
The ledger attaches the deck to your house, and bad flashing there is the #1 cause of deck failures and water damage. We install and flash ledgers to code — it's exactly where cheap builders cut corners.
Do you build decks on sloped or hillside lots?
Yes. Sloped and hillside lots in Camas, Washougal and Felida are some of our favorite projects — we engineer footings and framing for the grade so the deck is solid and passes inspection.
